Executive Director’s Message

to the AEI-ASEM Summer School 2019
11 – 17 June 2019 – University of Malaya, Malaysia
20 – 29 June 2019 – University of Limerick, Ireland
Executive Director's Message

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Malaysia and to the Asia-Europe Institute (AEI), University of Malaya. We are pleased to present our fifth AEI-ASEM Summer School with the theme “Multiculturalism in Asia and Europe”. This year, we partner with the University of Limerick, Ireland where participants will have the chance to spend the second half of the Summer School in beautiful Ireland. We hope you will enjoy all the activities planned at both venues and have an enchanting experience.

The Summer School offers a great opportunity for students and young scholars from different regions to meet, exchange ideas and enhance inter-cultural understanding. It provides a learning experience that is interactive and multicultural in essence. Through lectures, seminars, field trips and experiential learning, the programme hopes to raise awareness of the many issues and challenges that we face today in both Asia and Europe, in confronting diversities and in making cultural pluralism a way of life.

We trust that you will be inspired by the interactions in the classroom and outside and engage in robust discussions and critical reflections on developments in your own society and region. Through the field trips and other cultural and social programmes, we hope you will enjoy each other’s company and develop lasting friendship beyond the Summer School.

We look forward to welcome you to the AEI-ASEM Summer School 2019.
